Oranges picking, dates, grappes, almond. Good experience, good place to do your 88 days. Not the best value for money unless youve got an hourly pay job.

Loxton is a great town, settle back and explore

The first week wasn't actually too bad, however, it didn't take long for the true colours of the owners to start showing, they were very nice to new backpackers, but soon as they found out that you were leaving they treated you very inappropriately. They swore at you and if you had an accent they would make fun of you, not to mention starting fights. The orange tree picking is ridiculously bad pay and the trees are not looked after very well, to the point that they are illegal due to the hight, fruitfly and rats. From what i seen from the time i was there and word of mouth from other backpackers, they are very reluctant to give you hourly work if you are male, this is due to the owners wanting the males to pick oranges. The overall condition of the hostel is disgusting, there are flies all in the kitchen, dirty toilets and the showers barely worked. Sufficed to say, I aswell as many others, did not complete the 88 days required for the visa extension, so my journey continues.

$21.25(after tax and contractor's cut) for oranges. Not the best looked after farms either due to the trees being over-grown/unloved.$15.20(after tax and contractor's cut) for hourly work. Both through one contractor named Dean. Other work available depending on your timing. Go if you need your days but it's not the ritz. You'll make a ton of friends and memories.

Plenty of work available June onwards, (mainly orange picking) good sociable crowd of people from all areas and cultures. Great to spend the evenings cooking, chatting and drinking. Rooms comfortable but not perfect, showers ok but can get the odd cold one but that's hostel living. Rent is very cheap at $135 pw and lift provided to most working locations.
